Geo-Engineering: Our Plan B if Paris 2015 Fails?

On October 27th at 12:15, the Centre for Sustainable Development will be hosting the talk  Geo-Engineering: Our Plan B if Paris 2015 Fails?

Will technology save humanity from global warming? Would it be simpler to reduce the amount of solar rays getting through to Earth or to extract carbon from the atmosphere than it would be to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions?

Talking points

Speakers will cover main techniques currently being considered to control the planet’s climate, various methods grouped under the term “geoengineering”, as well as top research topics in the field. Speakers will also examine how these technologies can be linked to the United Nations’ climate change negotiations (COP21) to be held in Paris in December.

Speakers:

• Miguel Tremblay, physician, has been working in the atmospheric modelling field for over ten years
• Antti-Ilari Partanen, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University. His doctoral thesis modelled various scenarios in which aerosol was used for geoengineering purposes.
