Mission

The Regroupement national des conseils régionaux de l’environnement du Québec aims to protect the environment and promote sustainable development in a public-interest perspective. More specifically, it aspires to strengthen Québec’s regional environmental council network and encourages interaction between its members. It also develops strategic partnerships and promising projects, represents its members and communicates their positions on different issues.

Current areas of activity

Through its Par notre PROPRE énergie project, the RNCREQ supports regional management of climate change. The mobilization of regional Québec players working to reduce our dependence on oil represents a straight continuation of the Rendez-vous de l’énergie, a collective consulting and reflection process which resulted in the first Forum québécois sur l’énergie in November 2011.

The RNCREQ also oversees the organization of the third Forum national sur les lacs, with voluntary monitoring and citizen action support as main themes. The Regroupement supports lake protection expertise developed by the regional environmental councils (CRE), such as the CRE-Laurentides. An online directory of tools developed by the CRE has recently been made available.

Finally, to celebrate twenty years of active mobilization in Québec, the RNCREQ published Le Regroupement national des conseils régionaux de l’environnement : 1991-2011, a book recounting major milestones for the RNCREQ using the sociopolitical context of Québec as a backdrop. The book also outlines major projects the RNCREQ has undertaken with regional environmental councils. The publication may be ordered or downloaded online, free of charge.
