Mission

Created in 1983, Option consommateurs is a non-profit association whose mission is to promote and defend the basic rights of consumers and ensure that they are recognized and respected. Its members closely monitor issues related to commercial practices, financial services, energy and privacy rights and do not hesitate to instigate class-action suits when necessary.

Current areas of activity

Option consommateurs helps consumers plan their budget and stick to it, negotiate with public utility companies, get their home ready for winter, find out about their rights and have them respected.

They also inform consumers by organizing information sessions, producing the Toy Guide for the magazine Protégez-vous, producing various other guides, writing numerous articles for several Quebec magazines and offering a host of information on their website.

In addition to this, they defend consumers' interests by alerting public opinion, instigating class-action suits, producing research reports, representing them before parliamentary committees and taking part in various committees.
