On October 6th at 12:15, the Centre for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation, will be hosting a talk by David Boyd, environmental lawyer, professor, and author currently touring the country to promote his latest book titled Cleaner, Greener, Healthier: A Prescription for Stronger Canadian Environmental Laws. He will be accompanied by Dr. François Reeves, cardiologist and author of Planet Heart.
Tens of thousands of Canadians are getting sick from toxic substances in the air, food, water, and consumer products. In his book, David Boyd assesses the environmental burden of disease in Canada, identifies its unequal distribution, and estimates the associated economic costs. He then compares Canada’s environmental laws and policies with those in the US, Australia, and the EU, illustrating Canada’s second-rate standards. Finally, he prescribes legal remedies that will prevent thousands of premature deaths, millions of illnesses, and billions of dollars in unnecessary health care expenditures annually.
The talk will be held in English.
